Tips for viewing a property

The Home Hub

When you are viewing a property, it’s crucial to prepare for your visit.

We have pulled together some tips on viewing a property for you. These should help you make the most of your visit.

1. Read the home report
Make sure you read the home report. It has loads of important information about the property you are going to look at. If you have questions, then ask the estate agent or the homeowner.

2. Have a checklist
Pull together a list of the things you absolutely need in your new home and tick them off as you go through the viewing. However, try to be open-minded. If you really love that view, maybe you don’t need a private parking spot.

3. Try to take someone with you
Rather than going alone, it’s better to take someone you trust along with you. They can act as a second pair of eyes and ears!

4. Take your time
Make sure you spend the time you need to view a house, so you get a feel for the place.

5. Find out what’s included in the sale?
Ask the seller what items will be included in the sale. Some furniture or white goods (fridge or washing machine, for example) could be left behind for you to keep. The seller may be downsizing or moving into a fully furnished show home.

6. Investigate the local area
Spend at least half an hour walking around the general area to see how close the things that matter to you, such as cafés, schools, transport links or local shops, are.

7. Don’t be afraid to keep asking questions
If you are ready to put in an offer for a property, make sure all your questions have been answered. And, if you think of another one, just ask it.

These tips should help you out but if you can think of any others we have missed, please let us know.
